The eZ Publish Online Editor (OE, or ezoe for short) is an extension that allows you to create formatted text using an intuitive interface. With the Online Editor you can easily format long passages of text for your articles, product descriptions, weblogs, etc. You can put your text into an XML field and then format the contents by using the OE interface which is very similar to the ones found in many word processors but within the limitations of the XML field format. It allows you to insert images and tables, add links, create bulleted and ordered lists, and more. There is no need to know XML/XHTML or manipulate tags manually. Simply click the necessary buttons and the OE will automatically convert your instructions into valid eZ Publish XML code when you store or publish the draft, which makes your content easy to export to different channels or transform to other formats later.
After installation, the Online Editor becomes an integrated part of your administration interface. It will appear every time you edit text that is stored using the XML block datatype. The following screenshot shows the Online Editor in action:
The eZ Publish Online Editor is licensed under the GPL and included in the eZ Publish distribution. Unlike earlier versions of the extension, the Online Editor 5.0 is based on TinyMCE 3.x. This version of the extension introduces various new features and works in some modern browsers that were previously unsupported (Opera, Internet Explorer 7 on Windows Vista, Safari).
