Subscribe to comments

A requisite for the subscription function to work, is that the cronjob for finding new subscriptions has been setup by the administrator. A cronjob is a maintenance script that takes care of various tasks behind the scenes, among them sending out notification emails and searching for new, registered users. The cronjob will be setup by the administrator.

A subscription requisite: Unregistered users must register an email address and get a confirmation on that email address before they can start commenting on a piece of content.

The user subscribes to comment updates on a content by ticking the "Notify me of new comments" in the "New comments" screen. As an anonymous user, when a notification is requested, the email address must be confirmed by the user. A confirmation email will be sent which includes a direct link that allows the user to activate comments on this content.

A confirmation mail could look something like this:

Receive notification email

When a user has ticked the "Notify me of new comments" box, the user will receive a notification email for any new comment on that content. The system supports multi-comments, so that the user receives a digest mail when there are several new comments on a piece of content.

Please find an example of a notification email below:

Viewing and stopping subscriptions

Anonymous users are able to view their subscriptions via the link in the notification email. Logged in users can go to "My Profile" - "My comment settings" to view their subscriptions.

The user can unsubscribe to comments on a piece of content by un-checking the field "Subscribed" as shown in the screen below:
